Hamburger and Potato Casserole

Ingredients

For the Casserole:
1 pound ground beef
1 medium onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
4 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
1 can (10.5 ounces) cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup milk
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1 teaspoon paprika
Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Ingredients
Prep the Vegetables: Wash and peel the potatoes, then slice them thinly. Finely chop the onion and mince the garlic.

Step 2: Cook the Ground Beef
Heat the Oil: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat.
Cook the Beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
Add the Onion and Garlic: Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until the onion is softened, about 5 minutes.

Step 3: Make the Sauce
Combine the Soup and Milk: In a medium bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup and milk. Stir until smooth.
Speason the Sauce: Add the dried thyme, paprika, salt, and pepper to the sauce. Mix well.

Step 4: Assemble the Casserole
Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Layer the Ingredients: Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray. Spread half of the sliced potatoes evenly in the bottom of the dish. Top with half of the cooked ground beef mixture, then half of the soup mixture. Sprinkle with half of the cheddar and mozzarella cheeses.
Repeat the Layers: Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, ground beef mixture, soup mixture, and cheeses.

Step 5: Bake the Casserole
Cover and Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour.
Uncover and Finish Baking: Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Step 6: Serve and Enjoy
Garnish: Remove the casserole from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley.
Serve: Serve the hamburger and potato casserole hot, with a side salad or your favorite vegetables.
