Ingredients
1/2 cup water
– 1/3 cup white vinegar
– 1/2 cup sugar
– 3 tablespoons ketchup
– 1 tablespoon soy sauce
– 1 teaspoon cornstarch dissolved in 2 tablespoons water (cornstarch slurry)
– Optional for added flavor: Pineapple juice, minced ginger, or minced garlic
Directions
1. In a small saucepan, combine the water, white vinegar, sugar, ketchup, and soy sauce. Enhance the flavor by adding a splash of pineapple juice, ginger, or garlic. Stir well to combine.
2. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar fully dissolves.
3. Slowly stir in the cornstarch slurry to the saucepan, continuing to stir as the sauce thickens. This should take about 1-
2 minutes. Adjust consistency as needed.
4. Once the sauce reaches your desired thickness, remove it from the heat. Adjust thickness by adding more water or pineapple juice.
5. Let the sauce cool slightly before serving. Enjoy immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
